اعلنت خمس مجموعات اسلامية في اليمن وشبه الجزيرة العربية اندماجها في تنظيم اطلق عليه اسم "قاعدة الجهاد"، مهددة بتنفيذ عمليات ارهابية تستهدف مسؤولين يمنيين ومصالح غربية، وفق ما اوردت احدى الصحف اليمنية اليوم الثلاثاء 30-9-2003.
وافادت صحيفة "البلاغ" ذاكرة بيانا منسوبا لتنظيم قاعدة الجهاد ان "تعديلات استراتيجية قد أدخلت في هيكل تنظيم القاعدة في اليمن حيث تم تغيير أسمه إلى قاعدة الجهاد". واوضح البيان ان "التنظيم الجديد يضم كلا من تنظيم القاعدة وتنظيم الجهاد المصري وتنظيم الجهاد اليمني وجيش عدن ابين الاسلامي وتنظيم أحفاد الصحابة في أرض الجزيرة والجماعة السلفية للدعوة في الجزائر".
