Purported Mullah Omar Recording Emerges In Afghanistan

25 July 2005 (RFE/RL) -- Taliban spokesman Abdul Latif Hakimi says fugitive Taliban leader Mullah Mohammad Omar has called on his supporters to put aside differences and continue to battle U.S. and Afghan government forces.

An audio recording of a message, purported to be Omar, was handed over to a Reuters correspondent in Kandahar on 25 July. If authentic, it would be the first new recording of Omar to surface since his regime was overthrown by U.S.-led forces in late 2001.

The recording contains a field radio message addressed to the Taliban's leadership council. It also calls on Taliban fighters to stop harassing ordinary Afghans.

The recorded voice does not elaborate on the disagreements within the Taliban or the reference to harassing people.

دعا زعيم حركة طالبان الملا محمد عمر أتباعه لتنحية الخلافات جانبا، ومواصلة الحرب على القوات الأجنبية بقيادة الولايات المتحدة والحكومة الأفغانية.

وقالت مصادر عسكرية أميركية إن الجندي لقي مصرعه في اشتباك مع مقاتلين من طالبان بولاية هلمند جنوب أفغانستان.

وجاء في بيان للجيش أن الجندي قتل عندما هاجم ما بين 15 إلى 20 ممن أسماهم "الأعداء" موقعا أميركيا في مقاطعة جيريشك بهلمند, مؤكدا مقتل أحد المهاجمين وجرح اثنين.

وعقب هجوم ثان قال الجيش الأميركي إن ستة من جنوده أصيبوا بجروح لدى انفجار قنبلة على أحد جانبي الطريق والذي استهدف عربة عسكرية أميركية في إقليم كونار شرقا، أعقبه إطلاق كثيف للنار من أحد المواقع التي كان يختبئ فيها مهاجمون يعتقد أنهم ينتمون لطالبان.

في تطور آخر أصيب ثلاثة من رجال الشرطة بجروح في انفجار قنبلة بأحد الطرق الرئيسية في العاصمة كابل، استهدفت نقطة تفتيش صباح اليوم.

وقال قائد قوة الرد السريع في كابل إن القنبلة وضعت عند حاوية للشحن كانت تستخدم كموقع أمني على الطريق المؤدي إلى مطار كابل، فجرت عن بعد في ما يبدو.

وأضاف أن سيارة تحمل اسم الأمم المتحدة كانت واقفة في الشارع أصيبت بأضرار من جراء الانفجار، ولم تعلن أي جهة المسؤولية.
